What are grams and grains?

It's tempting to abbreviate grams as gr, isn't it? But it's incorrect! The correct symbol for grams is g. Recall that the gram is a metric unit of mass that corresponds to one thousandth of a kilogram.

The symbol gr means grains: it is a unit of mass used in the apothecary system to measure small amounts of chemicals. It is equal to 64.79891 milligrams, that is, to 0.0648 grams.

What are teaspoons and tablespoons?

A teaspoon (tsp.) and a tablespoon (tbsp. or tbs.) are two customary units of volume, popular in cooking and baking. To convert between them, remember that one teaspoon is one third of a tablespoon. Equivalently, one tablespoon equals three teaspoons.

How do I convert gr to teaspoon?

To convert between grams or grains and teaspoons, follow these steps:

  1. Write down the mass in grams or grains.
  2. Find the density of the substance in grams per milliliter.
  3. Convert the density:
    • If the mass is in grams, multiply the density by 5.
    • If the mass is in grains, multiply the density by 77.
  4. Divide the mass by the density from Step 3. The result is the volume in teaspoons.

🙋 To convert gr to tbsp, follow the steps above and at the very end divide the result by 3.

How to use this g to tsp converter?

It's very straightforward to use Omni's g to tsp converter! Just choose the substance in the upper box and enter the mass (or volume) in the lower box. Remember to double-check the units! For instance, to convert gr to tsp, search for grains and teaspoons, respectively.
