## How to convert ounces to pounds

To convert oz to lb, you only have to remember one thing. One pound is equal to 16 ounces, as shown in the equation below:

$1\ \text{pound} = 16\ \text{ounces}$

We can also divide both sides by 16 to express that relationship as follows:

$1\ \text{ounce} = 0.0625\ \text{pounds}$

Now we see that one ounce is equal to 0.0625 pounds. We can also say that there are 0.0625 pounds in an ounce. To convert oz to lbs, we multiply the weight in ounces by $0.0625\ \tfrac{\text{pounds}}{\text{ounce}}$. In equation form, we express that as:

$w_\text{lbs} = w_\text{oz}\times 0.0625\ \tfrac{\text{lbs}}{\text{oz}}$

where:

• $w_\text{lbs}$ is the calculated weight in pounds; and
• $w_\text{oz}$ is any weight in ounces.

We can also divide $w_\text{oz}$ by sixteen to find $w_\text{lbs}$. Or if you want to do some mental math, you can divide any weight in ounces by 2 four times in a row to find its equivalent weight in pounds.
