Adena Benn is an Information Technology teacher with a degree in Computer Science. She has been teaching high schoolers since 1996 and loves everything computers. Adena is a trained graduate teacher with more than twenty years of experience. Although her specialty is computer science and information technology, she has taught a variety of subjects, including mathematics and English. She is a strong advocate for transformative education through the use of technology. Adena found her love for computers when she received her first computer as a gift and decided to study computer science. She applied herself diligently and quickly caught the attention of her lectures. This led to her being awarded the post of student instructor at the University of Guyana upon the completion of her diploma, where she taught a practical course on using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Upon completing her degree, she joined the staff of Critchlow Labor College, where she taught Information Technology and social studies. Four years later, she became the head of the information technology department of St. Ignatius Secondary School in Rupununi, Guyana. After spending eight years in the Rupununi, she requested a transfer to Charity Secondary School in her hometown. Presently, Adena is the appointed head of the information technology department of Charity Secondary School in Guyana and is a member of the marking team for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Certificate (CAPE), where she marks information technology. In an effort to promote computer literacy in Guyana, Adena often works with the Industry and Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister’s office to educate adults in the field of information technology. At Omni, Adena Benn employs her knowledge as a native English speaker to proofread other authors' posts. She also uses her wealth of knowledge to craft articles about everyday life, mathematics, finance, and agriculture. She is the proud creator of several calculators and accompanying articles, including the perimeter of a quadrilateral, absence percentage, box method, slack time and accumulated depreciation calculators. Presently she works as a member of Omni’s SEO team. To combat the lack of adequate textbooks in Caribbean schools, Adena owns and is one of the writers for an information technology blog focusing on the IT syllabus for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). She recently started a YouTube channel, where she publishes videos and whiteboards as educational resources to accompany her online blog. She also holds a dressmaker’s certificate, and an SEO Essentials certificate from SEMRush.
