How to calculate AP® World score

The AP® World score is one of the more complex to find out among the other AP® scores because you need to apply four various weights to the raw points and scale them appropriately. Here’s how we do it in the AP® World History calculator:

  • 55 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) — max. 55 points scaled to 52: MCQ × 52/55.
  • 3 short-answer questions (SAQ) — max. 9 points scaled to 26: SAQ × 26/9.
  • 1 document-based question (DBQ) — max. 7 points scaled to 32: DBQ × 32/7.
  • 1 long essay question (LEQ) — max. 6 points scaled to 20: LEQ × 20/6.

Then, you need to sum up all the scaled points to get the composite score (0-130):

composite score = MCQ × 52/55 + SAQ × 26/9 + DBQ × 32/7 + LEQ × 20/6

Finally, check the associated AP® World score (1-5) with your composite score. We use the following conversion table in our AP® World calculator:
