How do you calculate how many days you‘ve been alive?
Calculating the length of your life in days is the same as counting the days between two dates. The only restriction is that the initial date should be your birthday. Let’s see how to work it out by hand:
- Define two dates — Date 1 is your birthday, and Date 2 is the current date. Let’s use February 12th, 2005, and July 2nd, 2026, as an example.
- Determine the day of the year for each date. In our case, February 12th is day 43 and July 2nd is day 183.
- Work out the difference between these values:
183 − 43 = 140. - Subtract the years of both dates —
2026 − 2005 = 21. - Multiply the difference in years by 365 (days in a year) —
21 × 365 = 7665. - Determine the number of leap years between the two dates. It would be
5(2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024). - Add the numbers from steps 3, 5, and 6 —
140 + 7665 + 5 = 7810. - This is your final result —
7810days between February 12th, 2005, and July 2nd, 2026.
